Put an architect, story-teller, designer and creative in a room ~ and you have ikima. We share a love for the minimal and simplistic things in life.

The concept of ikima was born early 2021, as we sought ways to enhance our appreciation for momentary gatherings of people and objects. With time on our side, and passions combined, we launched the ikima studio.

The word 'ikima' is the combination of two profound aesthetic concepts.

In Japanese, the term 'iki' loosely translates to refined ~ chic ~ pure and has an orientation toward ‘simple beauty’ in common with other Japanese aesthetic concepts, such as wabi-sabi.

The word 'ma' is also a concept in Japanese aesthetics. In architecture it is the space between the walls of a building, in art it is the white between the lines, in music it is the silence between two notes. It is non-form, however form cannot exist without it.

Together they encapsulate the values of slow living, minimalism, contentment and simplicity.

Statement Pieces

Blending smooth modern lines and sleek functional sophistication, we aim to achieve a sense of comfort and wellbeing.

Limited Release

Our pieces are neither one-off nor mass-made, forming part of our limited release, small-batch collections.

Slow Living

We don’t overcomplicate the design process, using minimal materials to create quietly understated pieces.

Design Inspiration

Simple, is often hard to find.

When we first started designing, we wanted a piece to sit in with all other pieces of furniture else, no matter what stage of life you’re in.

Quietly understated.

Enhancing the appreciation for momentary gathering of people and objects.
